What qualities make a piano student successful?Learning to play the piano is a challenge, but like any challenge the rewards make it worth it. If you understand what qualities are needed to become a great piano student you can focus on building each one so that your skills increase along with your character. Some of the top qualities of a successful piano student art listed below. 1. Determination. Without the will to put in the long hours and consistently challenge yourself becoming a great pianist is going to be an uphill battle. Determination helped fuel the desire to succeed. 2. Patience. Even if you have the determination to succeed it?s not going to happen overnight. Have the patience to realize that good things take time. Therefore, it may help to make short term goals on your way to your overall long term goal. 3. Rationality. Taking on the right song at the right time will be the way to correctly challenge you. Be rational in your practicing and in choosing pieces so that they are in line where your abilities are. 4. Commitment. Devoting time to practicing piano may be a challenge. Things like friends, career, or other distractions constantly take time away from your practicing unless you?re truly committed. 5. Modesty. Be modest about your playing and realize that all greats once started at the bottom. Be modest about where you are so that you?re patient with your progress and know you are in relation to others. Although some healthy competition always helps. 6. Passion. Spending large amounts of time in any endeavor will call for passion. You have to love what you?re doing and if you?re not passionate about piano you may regret your decision. 7. Curiosity. Without constantly challenging oneself one cannot grow. The driving force is often curiosity. The curiosity to try new pieces or learn new theory will help push you towards piano success. 8. Endurance. With piano one can truly say the tortoise wins the race. Slow and steady will make you much better than practicing hard for a short time and burning out. Be prepared for a marathon rather than a 40 yard dash. 9. Emotion. Emotion is right up there with passion. Great pianists have an emotion connection to the pieces that they play and truly ?feel? the music. This is one of the reasons they truly enjoy what they?re doing. 10. Originality. Notes are brought to life through originality. Although music pieces look the same on paper you determine how they sound through your playing style and originality. Sometimes this may even make it sound better than what the composer originally created! |
